Here are some great practice projects to sharpen your artistic skills!
Color a picture in colored pencil with shading
Great video on shading with colored pencils
Practice shading using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel to create neat shadows and 3D effects. You can use any coloring sheet that you would like or you can print one of the sheets attached if you have access to a printer.
When shading your coloring sheet, you will be using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. For the first part of the assignment, I would like you to draw a long rectangle and then fill it in with a rainbow of color. Please see the "Spectrum Example" I have attached. Follow this step by step guide and fill in your rainbow! Notice that the colors sort of blend together, make sure that you blend them together and do not leave any harsh lines where one color ends and the other color begins. Your colors should overlap to create the blending.
After you have finished making a blended rainbow you may begin the assignment. First, choose a coloring sheet, draw a picture, or print one of the sheets that I have attached. Start by choosing a color for your coloring sheet, such as yellow. Begin by coloring the picture yellow and then add shading by either using greens or oranges, since green and orange are both next to yellow on the color wheel. By using the neighboring colors you will be able to transition to a darker color in a way that looks artistic and professional!
For this assignment you will need: Colored pencils, a coloring page and a pencil sharpener.
Coloring pages you can print:
Watercolor Fun!
Tutorial: Watercolors
Try creating a watercolor sky scene
Below are some fun videos on how to watercolor these scenes!
For this project you will need:
Watercolors
A few brushes in different sizes
Thick or watercolor paper (this will not work very well on regular computer paper)
White and black acrylic paints (for the stars, moon and shadow fugiures)
**Brushes: Use watercolor brushes or brushes that are really soft when you brush them on your finger. These brushes hold lots of water and won't rip your paper when it is wet.
To create stars you will need white acrylic paint (not watercolor!)
If you have a Pinterest account then you can watch this nice sunset
